Cave Women

Top Women recently went on a caving expedition in Missouri and are still coming down from the awe of viewing 75,000,000 year old stalactites and stalagmites.

And since we also love old Christopher Reeve Superman movies, we thought we'd share these views of what has proven to be the largest crystals on earth in Crystal Cave of the Giants in Chihuahua, Mexico!

Almost as amazing as the crystals is the grueling ambient environment the photographer had to endure to take these shots; a steam bath of 100% humidity and temperatures of 150 degrees Farenheit caused from magma miles below venting up through faults into the area of the cavern.

(And although we hate to admit it, Top Men share our passion for the magnificent views hiding beneath the surface and so we thank Top Men for sharing!)

Nice! I'm guessing any other Myst fans reading this blog are probably reminded of Spire, too! Or even those crystals on Selenitic.

That is pretty darned amazing stuff to see, isn't it? Wow, such high humidity and temperature too :P Ugh, I'm dripping sweat at the thought of that. Like a sauna but worse. I hate saunas, as a totally random factoid.

I was hoping Top Peeps at Wohba! would see these pics.

Downright inspirational, if you catch my meaning ;)

You picked just the right time for a caving expedition in Missouri. Not too humid, not too hot, not too cold, not snowing every day, not raining every day.

I say that after having slogged through most of those conditions each day for classes.

I hope your trip was altogether better than my daily trips. :}

Andromeda623 thanks for enjoying the article. The crystals are said to be made of selenite (gypsum). Go here for more information.
